Gold Licence Caterers Accreditation Scheme

A large number of caterers currently operating do not comply with important legislative standards. The Caterers Gold Licence Accreditation Scheme lays down minimum standards and informs the public as to what standards are fundamental to a catering business in the areas of hygiene in food preparation, the quality of cooking personnel and management, the existence of appropriate Workers Compensation and Product & Public Liability insurance.

Scope of the Scheme: Is this scheme for me?Back to Top

Gold Licensing has established minimum standards for caterers in the areas of hygiene in food preparation, the quality of cooking personnel and management, the existence of appropriate Workers Compensation and Product & Public Liability insurance. All of these are potential problem areas for unsuspecting customers of “fly-by-night” businesses, and ensure that consumers are supplied with a quality product from an accredited caterer.

The Roadmap: What is the accreditation process?Back to Top

Each State Restaurant & Catering Association has an accreditation Sub-Committee which consists of a number of dedicated Caterers who are committed to improving the profile and image of the catering industry. The Sub-Committee determines the overall policy and marketing relating to the scheme. Any application from a caterer for a Gold License is submitted to the Accreditation Board of the appropriate State Association for approval. The Board generally consists of at least one representative from each of the following: Department of Health, the Australian Institute of Environmental Health and the State Association Accreditation Sub-Committee. The application is approved/denied by the Board and the applicant notified. If an application for Gold License is not approved by the Accreditation Board, the applicant can appeal to the Board setting out the reasons why the application should be successful. Applications can take several weeks to be processed, pending the meeting schedule of the Accreditation Board.
